
Ian Lynass is the Managing Director of Blue Phoenix Australia, a role in which he has been instrumental in pioneering sustainable waste management solutions, particularly in the field of incinerator bottom ash (IBA) processing.
Ian has over 35 years of experience in waste management and resource mining, oil and gas and Defence.
He previously served as CEO and Managing Director of BIS Industries Limited, where he played a key role in its growth and strategic direction. He held senior executive roles at Brambles Industrial Services, including Managing Director of Northern Europe and Director of Coal and Iron Ore in Western Australia. Ian was also the CEO of Tempo Australia, where he led initiatives in corporate development and diversification.
Blue Phoenix Australia - Ian led the development of Australia’s first IBA treatment facility in Kwinana, Western Australia, a project five years in the making and valued at $11.3 million. The facility processes around 80,000 tonnes of IBA annually, converting waste into valuable secondary materials like aggregates for civil construction. He also founded the Manufacturers of Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate of Australia (MIBAAA) to promote responsible reuse of IBA.
Ian came out of semi-retirement to lead the Blue Phoenix project, driven by a passion for environmental sustainability and circular economy principles. Ian credits his family—especially his wife Fiona, and daughters Jessica, Stephanie and Tiffany—for their support throughout the project
